Wednesday with CometBabesBooks

Another Wednesday rolls around and I'm delighted to welcome the lovely Jo Hurst in the spotlight!

Jo offers a steady stream of book news and reviews on her blog. She's been a wonderful support to me personally with my Keepers series (thank you, Jo!) and recently admitted that she's a huge Ethan fan!

What made you decide to start CometBabesBooks?

I started blogging because I wanted to share my love of books and was always being asked what books I had read, which ones I would recommend. I came across bloggers via twitter and I thought what a wonderful idea.

What are the blogging highlights?

Making loads of new friends via twitter and interacting with them. I have friend’s bloggers/authors from America to Australia.

Do you have any pet peeves about the blogging/author/publisher/reading process?

I don’t really have any, I’m pretty easy going, but the only thing that does annoy me is when an author emails you to read/review their book and attaches it to the email. It’s like they expect you to read it.

What is the most challenging thing about being a blogger?

There are 2 things I find challenging, one is finding time to read all the wonderful books out there and my TBR pile has become massive so quickly, I feel awful saying no to someone. The other, is deciding what to put in a review, even when I really like a book I sometimes struggle with what to say. I don’t want to say the same thing over and over again.

You receive a lot of author requests to read their books. How do you decide what to read and when?

At one point I didn't like saying no to anyone but my TBR is so huge that I have had to start saying ‘I’m really sorry but I don’t have time to read your book at the moment’. I have also mentioned this on my blog. Depending on the author I may make exceptions, especially if it is part of a series I have been reading and I want to read the next book.

What are you currently reading?

I’m just about to start Chronicles of a Lincoln Park Fashionista by Aven Ellis, I love Aven’s books and she writes the hottest book boyfriends.

Do you have any advice to authors about how best to approach bloggers and develop relationships with them?

I would say interact with us on social media, twitter, facebook etc, don’t just send us a random email asking us to review and especially don’t just attach your book to your email or by spamming us via Twitter, it’s so annoying, I know a lot of bloggers ignore requests if you spam us on twitter. I don’t mind a DM asking for a review, I know some bloggers who don’t like that.

  1. What a pleasure to meet Jo. In today's world of information overload I tend to seek out blog reviews to find good books instead of just buying something random. Thanks for the great work you do.

  3. Hi Jo, fab post :). I think authors always love hearing that bloggers really enjoy their reading. And I'm with you on the Galaxy chocolate! It goes nicely with sunshine, a pool, and a really good book.
